Google AI Mode API: what Google's AI tells your customers

Read the answer Google gives before a buyer ever sees your listing
The Google AI Mode API sends a plain question to Google AI Mode and returns the answer as one row. The answer is split into ordered text blocks, about 13 on average: paragraphs, headings and lists, each with its text. When AI Mode lists sources, you get up to 6 with title, link, snippet and site name. One question costs €0.0015, so 1,000 questions cost €1.50. Every source and price is on our page of all data APIs and prices. Save your questions once, and every answer is kept in your Scrapewise account for the table, Excel, your AI assistant or the API.
AI Mode is Google's chat-style search. A shopper types "best shopify apps for dropshipping" and gets a written answer that names products, in our sample DSers first and Zendrop next. If your product isn't in that answer, the shopper may never scroll to a place where it is. This API lets you read those answers at scale and search them for your brand.
It's a different call from the Google AI Overview API. The AI Overview is the summary above normal results and needs a Google search first. AI Mode takes your question directly and needs nothing else. You can set the country and language, so you can compare what AI Mode says to US and UK buyers.
Who uses the Google AI Mode API
Brands and app makers
Ask the "best X for Y" questions your buyers ask and check whether your name comes up, and in which block.
SEO and content teams
See which sites AI Mode lists as sources for your topics, and which of your pages never make the list.
Amazon and Shopify sellers
Ask how to price, ship or source products in your niche and read which tools, services and sites the answer recommends.
Marketing teams
Save answers weekly and share the changes with the team in a plain sheet, one row per question.
How it works
Write your questions once
Enter questions the way buyers type them, like 'cheapest way to ship packages in the us'. Pick a country and language if needed. Each question is one call at €0.0015.
Run them weekly
Schedule the list daily, weekly or monthly. Each answer is saved with its date, so you can compare this week with last month.
Search the answers
Search the block and source columns in the table or Excel, pull rows by API, or ask your AI assistant: 'in which answers did my brand show up this month?'
Set it up once. The data keeps coming.
Save your search once and it runs by itself. Every run lands in your own Scrapewise database, and you pick how to read it.
Set it up once
Add your ASINs, keywords, places or apps to a scraper in the web app. New accounts get 5 free requests.
Runs on your schedule
Pick daily, weekly on the days you choose, every few days, or the first or last day of the month. Scheduled runs start at night, European time. Need it more often? Start runs from your own code.
Saved in your database
Each run adds dated rows, so this week sits next to last week. Rows are kept for 90 days.
Use it your way
Open the table in the web app and download the latest run as an Excel file. Ask your own AI assistant about it. Or pull the rows into your code with an API key.
Ask your AI assistant about your own data
Connect Claude Desktop, Claude Code or another MCP app with a read-only key. The assistant reads the rows you've already collected, at no extra cost on Scrapewise. With a full-access key it can start a run for you too.
- Which of my ASINs lost the Buy Box this week?
- Which competitor cut prices the most since Monday?
- Show the keywords where I dropped out of the top 10.
What you send and what you get
Send a question or keyword. Country and language are optional. You get one row per question with the answer's text blocks in order and its sources when AI Mode lists them.

Column guide
One answer is one wide row. Text blocks are numbered in reading order from 0, and list items and inline links are numbered inside their block. Short answers leave the higher-numbered columns empty. The sw columns (shown as sw title, sw locale and so on) use the same names as on every Scrapewise data API.
Standard columns shared with every API
sw source url is the question as a Google link, sw title is the answer's first heading, sw locale is the language and country used, and sw fetched at is the time in UTC.

What brands do with AI Mode answers
Check if AI Mode recommends you
Ask "best [your category] for [use]" and search the text blocks for your brand. Note the block number: being named in block 1 beats a mention in block 15.
Compare AI Mode with AI Overview
Run the same query through both APIs and compare the sources. A site cited in one and missing from the other tells you where to focus.
Track answer changes over time
Save the answer to 30 key questions every week and compare the text. When a competitor appears in an answer, you see the week it happened.
Collect buyer-style questions
Test 30 questions your customers ask and log which brands and sites each answer names. The ones named most often are your real competition in AI search.
See which sources AI Mode leans on
Count site names in the source columns across your questions. In our shipping sample, the USPS site, a shipping software company and a Reddit thread are listed together.
Feed a team report
Export the blocks to a sheet. Headings and lists stay in order, so anyone can read the answer without opening Google.
