Keyword and competitor research without the quota

The YouTube scraper API returns about 18 videos per search, in the order YouTube ranks them, with title, channel name, verified status, view count, video length, publish age, description snippet and link. It also returns YouTube's estimate of total results for the keyword. One search costs €0.0015, so 1,000 searches cost €1.50. Save your keywords once, and every run's video list is stored in your Scrapewise account for the table, Excel, your AI assistant or the API.

The official YouTube Data API gives each project a daily quota, and every search request uses a large part of it. If you research 50 keywords a day you hit that limit fast, and before the first result you still need a Google Cloud project, an API key and some code. The fallback is typing keywords into the search bar and writing view counts in a notebook.

Here you enter the keyword and get the list as a table. No API key, no quota to watch, and you pay per search. The view count is a plain number, so you can sort, average and compare without cleaning '92M views' by hand. If you'd rather call it from code, our guide to a YouTube scraper API in Python covers it. For the same research on the written web, see the Google News API. To check if a topic is growing before you film it, try the Google Trends API. All sources and prices are on the all data APIs and prices page.

Who uses YouTube search data

  • YouTube creators

Before you script a video, search the keyword and see who ranks, how many views they have and how old those videos are. An old top 5 with modest views is an opening.

  • Small video agencies

Run keyword research for 10 client channels without sharing one API quota between them. Deliver the list as a sheet each month.

  • Sellers and brands

Search your product type, like 'standing desk review'. See which channels review products like yours and how many views those reviews get. That's your outreach list.

  • App and course makers

Search the tutorials your future customers watch. The channels that rank for 'excel pivot table' or 'learn spanish fast' are where your audience already is.

How it works

  1. Save the keywords

Enter searches like 'how to tie a tie'. To match a YouTube filter, such as uploaded this week, copy the filter code from the search link. Each search is one call at €0.0015.

  2. Schedule them weekly

Each run saves every video with its position and date, so you can follow rankings week by week.

  3. Sort the videos

Sort by views or filter by channel in the table or Excel, pull rows by API, or ask your AI assistant: 'which channels entered the top 10 for my keywords this month?'

Set it up once. The data keeps coming.

Save your search once and it runs by itself. Every run lands in your own Scrapewise database, and you pick how to read it.

  1. Set it up once

Add your ASINs, keywords, places or apps to a scraper in the web app. New accounts get 5 free requests.

  2. Runs on your schedule

Pick daily, weekly on the days you choose, every few days, or the first or last day of the month. Scheduled runs start at night, European time. Need it more often? Start runs from your own code.

  3. Saved in your database

Each run adds dated rows, so this week sits next to last week. Rows are kept for 90 days.

  4. Use it your way

Open the table in the web app and download the latest run as an Excel file. Ask your own AI assistant about it. Or pull the rows into your code with an API key.

Ask your AI assistant about your own data

Connect Claude Desktop, Claude Code or another MCP app with a read-only key. The assistant reads the rows you've already collected, at no extra cost on Scrapewise. With a full-access key it can start a run for you too.

  • Which of my ASINs lost the Buy Box this week?
  • Which competitor cut prices the most since Monday?
  • Show the keywords where I dropped out of the top 10.

What you send and what you get back

Send a keyword. An optional filter code copies any filter from the YouTube search page, like upload date or type. Each call returns about 18 videos, one row per video, plus the total results estimate for the keyword.

What each column means

Columns that start with 'sw' use the same names on every Scrapewise data API. The others are YouTube's own search fields. One thing to know: on this API, the sw rating count column holds the view count, since YouTube search shows views and no star rating.

The video

Position in the results, title, link and video ID. The ID stays the same if the creator renames the video, so use it to follow one video across many runs.

Views, length and age

Views as a plain number, length as shown on the thumbnail, like '3:01', and publish age as YouTube's text, like '1 year ago'. YouTube search doesn't give an exact date, so the sw published at column stays empty.

Channel name, link, avatar and whether it has the verified badge.

  • sw seller

The still thumbnail, the moving preview and badges YouTube shows under the video, like 'CC' for captions.

What you can do with YouTube search results

01

Find topics that pull views

Search 30 keyword ideas and average the views of the top 5 videos for each. The keywords where top videos have big views and few strong channels are the ones to film first.

02

Track your rank for a keyword

Search your target keywords every week and find your video ID in the position column. You'll see if a new title or thumbnail moved you up.

03

Map the channels in your niche

Run 20 niche keywords and count how often each channel appears. The channels in almost every list are your real competitors.

04

Check how fresh the top results are

The publish age column shows text like '11 years ago' or '1 year ago'. If the top of a keyword is full of old videos, a new one has a fair shot.

05

Plan video length

Look at the length column for the top 10. If every ranking video is under 4 minutes, a 20-minute take on the same keyword is fighting the format.

06

Find reviewers for your product

Search '[product type] review' and list channels with verified badges and high views. That's a ready outreach list for samples or sponsorships.
